“Judith is an artist of vision, purpose and vitality. Born in the East in New Brunswick, living in the West in BC has given her a full broad range for her particular subject matter, the Forest: her artworks are imbued with its mysterious light slanting through the equally mysterious green dark.

I saw her talent taking shape, moving in interesting diversified directions, searching many media, when she was studying at the University of Victoria. I am now a professor emerita of Fine Arts and still recall what a joy it was to have her in the classroom — intelligent and lively, always willing to assist or help others having difficulties. Her own work showed a lyrical line coupled with fine space-handling.

As Judith’s 4th-year advisor I can attest to her skills, dedication and strength of character. It was not a surprise her marks were high and well-deserved on graduation with BFA Honours in 1993.

Since that time I have watched Judith Saunders’ progression with great enthusiasm, for she — being true to herself — has never stopped exhibiting or working, spending painting time in the loneness, not loneliness, of the New Brunswick woods and then on Vancouver Island, developing upward and onward into the professional artist she is today.

Working full-time as an artist with many field trips to remote areas, Judith Saunders is a painter who fulfills her promise with many well-attended and well-received solo exhibitions and an impressive body of work.”
