On a recent trip to Mexico, Canadian artist Judith Saunders studied with well known Mexican artist Cristiana Marinescu at her studio and gallery in San Miguel de Allende. Mexico is the land of vibrant and brilliant colours and these colours are prominent in Mexican art. Marinescu is well known for her use of brilliant colours in her paintings showing the magnificent doors of San Miguel de Allende. “It was a wonderful experience to be exposed to such vibrant colours”, Saunders said, “and I will attempt to use a broader palette for some of my future paintings”.
San Miguel de Allende is located in the mountains near Mexico City and is considered one of the top artistic communities in Mexico with art galleries and artist studios everywhere. Art lovers from all over the world flock to San Miguel every winter to enjoy the warm weather and view the outstanding Mexican art, including paintings, sculpture, statues, murals and pottery. Almost every block has a gallery or artist studio open to the public. On a visit to Mexico in April Judy and her husband Mike spent 3 weeks in San Miguel de Allende before traveling on to Guanajuato. Judy visited many art galleries and met with numerous artists to discuss their work.
